ABOUT THE EVENT

TICKET Freddie at the Opera!happy birthday Freddie Mercury 80Symphonic concert

Happy 80th Birthday, Freddie MercuryA concert marking what would have been Freddie Mercury’s 80th birthday will take place on the exact date he was born – 5 September – as part of the Symphony of Art festival. This is not another typical “Queen tribute” night. The dramaturgy is built around Mercury’s relationship with opera and the project that expressed it most strongly: the album Barcelona, recorded with Montserrat Caballé. This operatic line forms the core idea of the concert. Of course, the birthday concert will also feature iconic hits by Freddie and Queen – the songs we all know. On stage, a festival symphony orchestra, a 40-member choir and soloists tenor Martin Gyimesi, sopranosTatiana Hajzušová and Gabriela Hrženjak will come together. The programme will include selected pieces inspired by the Barcelona project as well as famous hits in symphonic-vocal arrangements. The concert presents Mercury’s work through the sound of orchestra, choir and operatic voices – respectfully, without imitation and without clichés. The event is presented by the Bratislava–Ružinov Borough as part of the international multi-genre festival Symphony of Art.
