The famous tenor accepted the festival's invitation and will perform at the opening concert on September 1 at 7:00 p.m. accompanied by the Slovak Philharmonic.
He is a phenomenon and an unbridled element, "the most magical star of today's modern opera scene" (The Times) with "a wonderfully masculine voice...grandezza, elegance and power!" (Süddeutsche Zeitung). The native of Mexico City is the holder of a number of prestigious awards, including the title of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of France, the country which has become his second home. Villazón won the French award Les Victoires de la Musique for "Foreign Discovery of the Year". In 2004 he was awarded the Echo Classics Award for his first solo album, a year later he receives the Gramophone Classical Music Awards for his second album. Currently, he performs successfully on all the important opera stages of the world such as Berlin, Munich and Vienna, La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York or the Salzburg Festival. Also in London, Paris, Baden-Baden, Leipzig, Rome and elsewhere. He also regularly collaborates with important conductors such as Daniel Barenboim or Yannick Nézet-Séguin. He is an ambassador of the Red Noses Clown Doctors International Charity and a member of the College of Pataphysics in Paris.
